Bridget’s belief in supporting an organization’s human capital led her to pursue a career in human resources. “I strongly believe in the benefit of maximizing human capital and the positive effects it has on an organization,” she says. “I would like to be a part of an organization that also has this as one of its core values; I want to ensure that all employees are receiving the resources and compensation they deserve.”

“As an HR intern at Hastings Fiberglass, I work on a variety of tasks and projects in various areas of human resources. For example, I have written policies and procedures, recorded employee benefit information, adjusted employee hours for personal time off, reviewed resumes, written job descriptions and other tasks.”

She noted that WMU Haworth courses have prepared her for this position in addition to other future endeavors. Bridget has been able to hone her professional skills and technical knowledge as an intern. She feels fortunate to bring her skills to a professional environment while gaining a deeper understanding of the material she has learned so far. “Courses like Integrated Communication in Business as well as Total Rewards have provided me with the familiarity and talent to create well-developed emails, resumes, cover letters and more.”

Being able to use these skills in a human resources environment has been a great way for Bridget to continue her growth and set herself up for future success after her time at WMU.

Providing students with opportunities for real-world experience is one of the things that sets WMU Haworth apart—and gives students like Bridget a jumpstart on their career.
