Pi Mu Epsilon Eligibility

Join

To be eligible for membership in the Michigan Epsilon Chapter at Western Michigan University you must satisfy any one of the following:

  • You have completed 48 credit hours at WMU (including transfer credits), and you have an overall GPA of 3.0 and a GPA of 3.0 in all mathematics and statistics courses, including MATH 1220/MATH 1700, MATH 1230/MATH 1710 and two additional mathematics courses, at or above the calculus level. If you are a transfer student, at least two of these courses must have been taken at WMU.
  • You are in your second year at WMU intending to major in the mathematical sciences and you have an overall GPA of 3.2, and a GPA of 3.75 in all mathematics and statistics courses including MATH 1220/MATH 1700, MATH 1230/MATH 1710 and either MATH 2300 or MATH 2720 (or both).
  • You are a graduate student admitted to a graduate program in the Department of Mathematics at WMU and have a GPA of 3.5 in all mathematics and statistics courses taken in the last school year prior to your election. In addition, you must have completed at least one semester in the graduate program at WMU.
  • You were inducted into the Pi Mu Epsilon chapter at your previous institution, thereby qualifying you for honorary membership into the chapter at WMU.

Fees

Membership fees are paid in large part by the department. The cost to the student is $10. This covers lifetime dues, a one-year subscription to the Pi Mu Epsilon journal, a personalized membership certificate and an elegant honor cord (featured on the right) that you can proudly wear at graduation and other ceremonial occasions.

Members may also purchase a Pi Mu Epsilon Key Pin at a cost of $20.
