Concert series features guitarist Fareed Haque
KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Virtuoso jazz and classical guitarist Fareed Haque will perform a solo recital at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, in Western Michigan University's Dalton Center Recital Hall.
The performance will be preceded by a 7 p.m. discussion hosted by Dr. Robert White. Tickets are $12 general admission, $10 for seniors and $5 for students, and are available from Miller Auditorium online or by calling (269) 387-2300 or (800) 228-9858.
Haque's mission to bring the world of classical music and improvisation together will be the theme of his concert at WMU, which will include works by Villalobos, Barrios and Giuliani, as well as his own arrangements of works by Satie and Casseus. Also featured will be jazz standards performed in spontaneous improvised arrangements with Knific.
Fareed Haque
Haque has toured extensively both as a jazz and classical guitarist. In 2009, he was voted Best World Guitarist by Guitar Player magazine. Haque has performed and recorded with such jazz greats as Joe Henderson, Paquito D'Rivera, Joe Zawinul, Dave Holland and many more. Haque has performed all of the major guitar concertos and has released numerous albums.
Bullock Music Performance Institute
Established in the fall of 1985 and renamed in 1988 in honor of its founder, the Bullock Music Performance Institute's mission is to add to the already rich cultural life of Kalamazoo by creating opportunities to develop closer personal and artistic ties between audience and performer. The institute has presented events ranging from formal evening concerts to daytime educational outreach events for students and local audiences of all ages.
