New oboe professor to perform with University Symphonic Band

KALAMAZOO, Mich.—The Western Michigan University Symphonic Band will present a free concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, in Miller Auditorium.

Led by conductor Scott Boerma, the band will feature a variety-packed program of wind ensemble classics, including John Philip Sousa's "Easter Monday on the White House Lawn," Florent Schmitt's "Dionysiaques" and David Maslanka's "Traveler."

Joining the performance will be Dr. Nora Lewis, associate professor of music, who recently joined the oboe faculty. She'll be performing Jennifer Higdon's Oboe Concerto.
