Plan to participate in Student Employment Appreciation Week
KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Western Michigan University is accepting nominations through Friday, Feb. 9, for its Supervisor of the Year and Belleville Student Employee of the Year awards.
The winners will be announced and all nominees honored during a reception 3:30 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, during WMU's 32nd annual Student Employment Appreciation Week.
The week will run from Monday through Friday, Feb. 19-23. It is dedicated to all student employees and is a time to recognize their hard work and countless contributions to WMU.
Make a nomination
Students may make nominations for the Supervisor of the Year award while faculty and staff members may make nominations for the Belleville Student Employee of the Year award. All nominations will be entered in a national competition.
"Nearly 4,000 students work for the University during the fall and spring semesters. They work in most campus departments, in positions ranging from office and catering staff to peer educators and summer orientation team leaders," says Brenda Case-Parris, coordinator of student employment in Career and Student Employment Services.
"During their employment, they build skills, explore career options, and make meaningful contributions to the University and Kalamazoo communities. The skills they develop on campus carry forward to their careers."
Celebrate student employees
To help University units celebrate their student workers, Career and Student Employment Services has developed a list of student recognition ideas, as well as created a template that can be used to make individualized student appreciation certificates.
The materials, and award nomination forms, may be accessed by visiting the Student Employee Appreciation Week web page at wmich.edu/career/campus/seaw. Direct questions to Brenda Case-Parris at brenda.case-parris@wmich.edu or (269) 387-2745.
Supervisors also are invited to submit the names and photos of their most exceptional student employees, along with a brief statement about their contributions, to wmu-social@wmich.edu. The University will feature as many of these students as possible on social media throughout Student Employee Appreciation Week.
