WMU board approves 2020-21 on-campus apartments rates
KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Acting at its Nov. 6 meeting, the Western Michigan University Board of Trustees approved rates for on-campus apartments and apartment-style residential units. The approved rates will go into effect starting with the fall 2020 semester.
Keeping costs in alignment with the surrounding community, per-person rates for existing unfurnished units will rise between $4 and $26 a month. New rates will allow for continued maintenance and improvements to existing housing while remaining sensitive to student affordability.
WMU offers a range of campus housing options to meet the diverse needs of WMU students. All campus apartments are posted as single person, per-bed rates with family housing available upon request. Costs may vary depending on the complex, unit style and amenities chosen.
Western View monthly rates will rise between 3.25% and 4.5%, translating to an increase between $17 and $26 per month. Depending on the unit style chosen, per-person rates will run from $515-$817 monthly. Western View housing continues to be in high demand, operating at over 98% capacity this fall.
Stadium Drive apartment rates will rise by 3% starting next fall. A two-bedroom apartment will run $418 per resident, reflecting a $12 per month increase.
Goldsworth Valley apartment per-person rates will increase by 1%. A two-bedroom unit will run $398 per occupant, and a one-bedroom unit will be $690 monthly for fall 2020.
Arcadia Flats rates were also included in the approval by the Board of Trustees. Currently under construction at the southern edge of campus, the newest campus housing complex will be open to students starting fall 2020.
The innovative apartment-style units will provide a range of options for students who choose to live on campus. Per person rates for Arcadia Flats will range from $585 a month for a two-bedroom four-person flat, to $1,200 per month for a furnished single person loft. A variety of additional furnished and unfurnished units are available. Rates include laundry and utilities.
Students interested in living in WMU apartments next fall are encouraged to sign up early for the best selection.
