KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Every fall, the Bronco community comes together to support the places we live, work and learn. Today, Monday, Oct. 6, Western Michigan University launches its 2025 United Way campaign, continuing a long-standing tradition of collective giving and community impact. With the theme “United is the Way,” this year’s effort celebrates the strength of unity and the power of generosity to uplift communities across Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, Jackson and Lansing.

“Western Michigan University values its longstanding partnership with the United Way, and once again this year, we are proud to collaborate on an effort that strengthens our community and ensures our neighbors have the resources they need,” WMU President Russ Kavalhuna says.  “When we come together as a campus community to support the United Way, our collective efforts far outweigh what any of us could accomplish alone.”

WMU partners with the United Way of South Central Michigan (UWSCMI), which formed in 2022 through a merger of regional United Way organizations. From April 2024 to March 2025, UWSCMI generated nearly $25 million in local and regional impact. Through the regional United Way, every dollar donated creates $3.80 of impact in southwest Michigan—helping families with housing, food, health care, child care and more.

“The United Way supports the very things that make communities strong: education, health and financial stability. I’m championing this drive because, as an educator and a member of this community, I know that when we invest in strong foundations, we make life better for everyone,” says Dr. Laura Dinehart, dean of the College of Education and Human Development and WMU United Way Campaign champion.
