Dr. Traci Cihon is an associate professor in the Department of Psychology at Western Michigan University and a member of the behavior analysis faculty. She received her master’s degree from the University of Nevada-Reno (UNR), her Ph.D. from The Ohio State University (OSU), and has completed the core courses for a master’s in public health through the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSCE)
Prior to joining the faculty at WMU, Dr. Cihon served as an assistant professor in the Department of Applied Behavior Analysis at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology (TCSPP) from 2007 to 2009, and as an assistant then associate professor in the Department of Behavior Analysis at The University of North Texas (UNT) from 2009 to 2022. She taught graduate-level courses for the UNR Global Institute for Behavior Analysis and TCSPP from 2022 to 2025.
Dr. Cihon’s scholarship focuses on culturo-behavioral systems science, building systems to support behavioral scientific work on social and cultural issues, including global justice, developing international and interdisciplinary collaborations, and behavioral education. She serves as the faculty advisor for the Cultural Systems and Community Action (CSCA) lab at WMU. Working within a selectionist and ecological systems perspective, members of the CSCA lab seek to advance our understanding of how social and cultural phenomena develop and change over time and extend this knowledge to the community, supporting community members in designing more globally-just cultural and behavioral systems.
The CSCA works in collaboration with the Culturo-Behavior Science Innovation Network (CBSIN), an initiative of the Behaviorists for Social Responsibility Special Interest Group (BFSR SIG) of the Association for Behavior Analysis International (ABAI), which Dr. Cihon co-founded and also currently co-facilitates. The CBSIN is a community of faculty, scholars, and practitioners interested in learning more about Culturo-Behavior Science (CBS) and advancing the corresponding research and practice through mentorship and collaboration.
She has served on editorial boards for several peer-reviewed journals, including Behavior and Social Issues, Perspectives on Behavior Science, and The Analysis of Verbal Behavior. Dr. Cihon still serves on the editorial board for the American Annals of the Deaf and is the current Editor-in-Chief for Behavior and Social Issues. She has co-edited two books in the ABAI book series, Behavior Science Perspectives on Culture and Community, and Women in Behavior Science: Observations of Life Inside and Outside of the Academy.
In addition to serving as a member of the Board of Planners for the ABAI BFSR SIG, she was awarded the APA Division 25 Fred S. Keller Behavioral Education Award in 2021, and serves as a co-coordinator for the ABAI culturo-behavior science concentration and certificate program..
