Bio:

Dr. Hugo Curiel is an assistant professor in the Department of Psychology at Western Michigan University. He earned his B.A. and M.A. from California State University, Fresno. He then earned his Ph.D. in Behavior Analysis from Western Michigan University. Dr. Curiel is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. His initial practitioner training was primarily in the area of early intervention for children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental/intellectual disabilities. He has worked with families in various environmental settings (e.g., home, clinic), and his Spanish/English bilingualism has allowed him to work with families of diverse cultural backgrounds. His primary area of research lies within the area of stimulus preference assessments and reinforcer assessments. Currently, his focus is on integrating technology with well-established stimulus preference and reinforcer assessment procedures. Dr. Curiel is also interested in assessing (a) diversity of authorship and editorial participation in behavior-analytic journals and (b) evaluating efficient skill acquisition procedures (e.g., matrix training). Though these are his current areas of interest, he is open to other areas of behavior-analytic research.

Dr. Curiel will be considering graduate applications for fall 2025.
