Science and Mathematics Program Improvement
The project seeks to increase numbers of students from underrepresented students in STEM fields. Project programming and enhancements focus on student mentoring, STEM research and job experiences, and academic support. As part of the external evaluation, SAMPI is administering annual student surveys and interviews related to interest in STEM careers and STEM attitudes and perceptions.

We all have biases. Some we are conscious of and some operate on an unconscious level. Both types of bias can affect our ability to fairly an accurately assess job candidates. Biases can also be embedded within the organization and are reflected in the organizational culture, policies, and practices. Individuals are better able to recognize and minimize the impact of biases in the hiring process when they increase their bias literacy.

Pitch competition helps tee engineering grad up for business success

—Virtual and in-person career fairs for Western Michigan University students begin Wednesday, Feb. 2 , as hundreds of employers vie for candidates to fill full- and part-time jobs as well as internships and co-op positions. In-person events are free and open to the public, although they are tailored to college students and recent college graduates. Employers have posted jobs to the online career site Handshake ; only students with Handshake accounts can attend the virtual job fairs.

Social work grad empowered to uplift migrant and Latinx communities

Above all, Western has empowered Cortes to uplift her community and inspire others to follow her lead. It's something she hopes to instill in the students and families she interacts with in her new job. "College is an opportunity to further your education, and education is something no one can take away from you." While her degree will help her enhance the lives of countless others in her community, it will also mean the world to her parents as the dream they had for her so many years ago is realized.
