Demand for cybersecurity experts has been growing for years as online professional and personal activities have increased. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics , information security analyst jobs are expected to grow by 32% through 2028. As of 2018, the median annual pay was $98,350. Available positions are only expected to increase as organizations recognize how vital cybersecurity specialists are to their operations.

CFA staff find meaning in sewing masks for medical professionals

Kate MacKenzie went from costumer in the Department of Theatre to coordinating ten staff members across the College of Fine Arts sewing masks for medical professionals. “Since I have no show to build for right now my job shifted into being the organizer of the project. I was going to be making masks to help the effort anyway, now I get to stay on payroll and make a bigger impact by facilitating others to make masks.“ Shifting focus from student support to community support has required learning new things.

Requests that have not typically qualified for SERF in the past, such as rent and utility assistance, will now be considered. “A student could have done everything right – planned for expenses, gotten an on- or off-campus job, budgeted, but COVID-19 changed all of that,” says Reed. “Thinking back to the intent of the fund, we felt that if students were in need with immediate, urgent, unexpected and/or emergency expenses, donors would want us to use that money to help.”
