Janice S. Weaver obituary

During her 21 years of service to the University, Weaver had worked in several campus cafes as well as every WMU dining hall kitchen except one. In addition, she had done just about every non-management job possible, including serving as a cook, baker, salad maker and stock person. The Portage resident was a police dispatcher in Nebraska before moving back to Michigan in 1986 with her late husband, Bernie Cowgill, who also had been a WMU employee.

She appreciates the variety in her job, which one day can involve advising six or seven young people, and another can involve committee meetings or workshops. Her favorite moment is when one of her students finds an opportunity and uses what the pair discussed to land the job or internship. She herself is grateful for the position she landed, and colleagues who are open to collaboration and sending students to her.

He also was a faithful member of Radiant Church. —Western Michigan University moved closer to the rollout of a new compensation structure for nonbargaining staff members this week as national consultants from the firm Aon Hewitt spent time on campus reviewing with managers and supervisors the first drafts of job classifications based on extensive input from employees.
