Student experience meets community impact in groundbreaking new Evaluation Lab

Delivering experience-driven learning The Evaluation Lab's inaugural group of student evaluators includes nine undergraduates and one graduate student with diverse majors and backgrounds. They learn evaluation skills on the job under the guidance of Youker. The student evaluators meet with local organizations’ leaders, design surveys, analyze data, conduct interviews and focus groups, give presentations and write reports, among many other tasks.

Youth Opportunities Unlimited In summer 2009, WMU participated in the Youth Opportunities Unlimited Program. A state and federally-funded program offering jobs to economically disadvantaged youths from ages 18 to 24. They formed an eco-crew and worked at Kleinstuck and Asylum Lake Preserves to improve the ecology and infrastructure.

How Our Students Succeed The WMU Paper Technology Foundation recruits students for the paper engineering program and provides them with the necessary tools to help them succeed. Students receive competitive scholarships, career development, paid internships and job placement upon graduation. The Paper Technology Foundation is a 501c(3) not-for-profit organization. Since its inception in 1958, more than 1,200 WMU paper engineers have been educated and trained for influential careers in the paper and allied industries.
