Ajenae McGill presenting to the WMU Marching Band
Doctoral student in Audiology, Ajenae McGill, presented to the entire marching band (about 265 students) at the Dalton Center on September 5th. She prepared a presentation about the anatomy and physiology of hearing, the risk of hearing damage for musicians and how they can best protect their hearing. Dr. Alyssa EminhizerClinical Faculty Specialist I in the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences was her advisor for the presentation and was there to help answer any questions from band members.

Exposure to noise like that from marching band has been proven to increase an individual's risk for noise induced hearing loss and tinnitus, so it is especially important that these students learn to protect their hearing early on in their musical careers.
