Vince Torano is a professor of art at Western Michigan University's Gwen Frostic School of Art. Torano joined WMU's faculty in 1997. He has also headed up the graduate program study abroad to Florence, Italy. Prior to coming to WMU, Torano was an assistant professor at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington. He has an M.F.A. in painting from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. He received his M.A. and B.A. degrees in painting from California State University at San Diego.
As an artist, Torano has exhibited at, among others, the San Diego Museum of Art; Art Source Gallery in Boise, Idaho; Liturgical Art Guild in Columbus, Ohio; Adler Gallery in Coburg, Oregon.; the University of Texas at Tyler; the Hunter Museum of American Art in Chattanooga, Tennessee; New Space Gallery in Los Angeles; and Limner Gallery in New York City. As an academic, he has given lectures at Marshall University, Huntington, West Virginia; Shawnee Sate University in Portsmouth, Ohio; Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Georgia; and Central Washington University.
Among his many awards and honors, Torano has received a Best of Show from Gallery 510 in Decatur, Illinois; second place at Union Street Gallery in Chicago Height, Illinois; sabbatical, faculty and provost development awards from WMU; a fellowship to the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, Amherst, Virginia; a J. William Fulbright Research Fellowship grant to paint in Florence and Rome; and a Japan Studies Institute, Kawakawa Fellowship from the American Association of State Colleges and Universities in Washington, D.C.
Torano's works can be found in the private and public collections of various individuals and at New Space Gallery in Los Angeles and Western Michigan University.
