The bassoon studio at Western Michigan University is typically comprised of seven or eight undergraduate students and one graduate assistant. All music majors take a one-hour private lesson each week with Dr. Rose. Studio classes throughout the semester provide students with an opportunity to perform for each other, meet with studio guest artists, or discuss various bassoon topics.
The following audio clip from WMUK public radio features performances by seven members of the WMU bassoon studio, along with interviews of various bassoon students and Dr. Rose.
Former students of Dr. Rose have had great success as performers and teachers. Among others they include Mingyuan Yang, 2013 winner of the International Double Reed Society Young Artist Bassoon Competition, Michael Harley, professor of music (bassoon) at the University of South Carolina, and numerous outstanding public school educators.
