Ms. Van Der Kley has served as the vice president for business and finance at Western Michigan University since July 1, 2011. She has global oversight for facilities management, public safety, human resources, contract administration, and financial activities of the University, including responsibility for the investment and management of endowments, planned gifts, and working capital.
Van Der Kley started her career at Western in 1983. Before assuming the vice presidential role, she held several positions throughout the University, including Associate Vice President for Business and Finance, Controller, Director of Operations in Development and Alumni, and Director of Internal Audit. She also serves as Treasurer of the University and the related foundations. Before joining Western, she worked in public accounting, where she earned her certified public accountant license, which remains active.
Van Der Kley earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Western Michigan University in 1980 and 1983, respectively.
A long-term resident of Kalamazoo, Van Der Kley has been actively engaged with community efforts where she can share her financial expertise. She currently serves as Chair of the Kalamazoo County Consolidated Dispatch Authority.
