- Abul Fazal Mazumder, a Ph.D. student, won the 3rd place award at the student poster competition held on July 25, 2019 as part of the Michigan Transportation Planning Association (MTPA) Conference organized by the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission. Poster title: Risk-Based Non-motorized Mobility Planning Framework for Construction Zones in Small Cities.
- Student team won the 2nd place award at the student poster competition held on October 27, 2017 as part of the Environmental Science & Policy Program (ESPP) Research Symposium organized by the Michigan State University (MSU). Poster title: Enhancing Non-motorized Mobility within Construction Zones.
- Simon Matar won the 3rd place award at the Student Paper competition organized by the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE), Construction Engineering Division. Simon entered the competition based on his research conducted during summer 2013 under the supervision of Dr. Upul Attanayake.
- Abdul Wahed Mohammed (author) and Mohamed Rusthi ( co-author), won the 2nd Prize for the poster on Greening Cement-Based Products with Waste Powder Paint (WPP) at 7th Annual Research and Creative Activities Poster Day on April 5, 2013.
- Abdul Wahed Mohammed presented the poster on Greening Cement-Based Products with Waste Powder Paint (WPP) at 7th Annual Research and Creative Activities Poster Day on April 5, 2013 at Western Michigan University. Rusthi is a co-author of the poster.
- Mohamed Rusthi and Dr. Attanayake at the 7th Annual Research and Creative Activity Poster Day on April 5, 2013 at Western Michigan University. Rusthi presented the poster on Remote monitoring of Fatigue Sensitive Detail on Steel Bridges.
- Tate Mazer and Michael Elluru, KAMSC students, presenting their research on Waste Powder Paint (WPP) use in Mortar during the Science Fair held at the Parkview Campus, Western Michigan University, 2013.

- Dr. Attanayake and Alp Servi attended the Transportation Research Board (TRB) 91st Annual Meeting, Washington, D.C., January 2012.
- Willie Vorbrich and Ben Wang are KAMSC students who conducted research at WMU as part of their curriculum.
- Alp Servi and Professor Emin Aktan visited the bridge site in New Jersey, October 2010.
- Alp was a member of the WMU technology demonstration team that participated in the International Bridge Study program sponsored by the FHWA as part of the Long-Term Bridge Performance Program (LTBPP).
