Scholarships

You’ve worked hard to pursue a degree in computer science. If you’ve already demonstrated exemplary academic and intellectual ability or have a demonstrated financial need, consider applying for scholarships. Western scholarships are based on academic and financial need.

Computer Science scholarship applications are due before April 1, each year.

As a Western student, you have access to numerous scholarships to help defray some of your costs and focus on your studies. Our system, Scholarship Universe, will guide you through the application and help match you to scholarships but we are always available to help! Visit the financial aid website to learn more.

Review individual scholarship requirements below for award amounts, eligibility requirements and deadlines.  

Awards generally post in fall and spring semesters, unless otherwise noted.

All scholarship applications are completed through WMU Scholarship Universe.

Student scholarship money allocated to the Department of Computer Science and arising from the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences differential tuition will be used for the primary purpose of attracting and retaining top students in the computer science program.

Students must apply for computer science scholarships through WMU's Scholarship Universe. Applications are due April 1.

Scholarship award candidates will be notified of the scholarship awards by the department chair. Any unused or returned scholarships will be awarded to alternates previously reviewed and selected as general retention award candidates.

Eligibility and criteria for award

  • All undergraduate students within the Department of Computer Science, are eligible to apply.
  • Must be a full-time student (carrying a minimum of 12 semester hours/semester) at the time of application and when receiving funds.
  • Students must be enrolled in good standing in an undergraduate CS program to receive their awards.
  • Award preference will be given to students who have at least a 3.0 grade point average at WMU.
  • Scholarship recipients must maintain a major in CS Department.
  • Recipients and amounts will be determined based on merit.
  • The CS Scholarship Committee will determine the recipients and amounts of the scholarship.
  • The minimum amount to be awarded to a student is $500.
  • Awards will be made to student accounts in fall or spring term.

Restrictions: Students shall not receive funds from this scholarship in years in which they are recipients of the Colonel Bayliss Scholarship or scholarships arising from the Medallion Program.

This scholarship was established in memory of Colonel Charles E. Bayliss. It is awarded annually to a student based on academic performance.
