Bio:

Dr. Radu Babiceanu is a professor and the chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Western Michigan University. Dr. Babiceanu received his Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Virginia Tech in 2005. Previously he was on the faculty and served as interim chair of the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Over the years, Dr. Babiceanu developed and taught a large number of fundamental and advanced systems engineering courses. He also developed and delivered training courses for industry in the area of aircraft system safety and security engineering and certification. His main research interests are in the aviation and aerospace operational ecosystem, with emphasize in cybersecurity and safety-critical systems assurance, formal modeling and verification, and AI/ML approaches to enhanced operations. In the recent years, Dr. Babiceanu was awarded and worked on grants and contracts sponsored by NSF, FAA, Boeing, and DoD, among others. He is a senior member of IEEE and IISE, held leadership positions with ASEE and INCOSE, and has authored or co-authored more than 100 refereed publications.
