Toxic Communities: Environmental Racism, Industrial Pollution, and Residential Mobility
Toxic Communities: Environmental Racism, Industrial Pollution, and Residential Mobility by sociologist Dorceta Taylor. The author develops new theoretical understandings of environmental justice by looking at how vulnerable communities are disproportionately harmed by pollution and other environmental hazards. Do authorities use legal mechanisms such as zoning laws and eminent domain fairly when making decisions with adverse environmental impacts? Is it just to locate hazardous facilities in neighborhoods already distorted by redlining and other forms of historical discrimination?
