Bio:

Evangelia (Evie) Murgia is a hydrogeologist and project manager for the Michigan Geological Survey, where she has worked for over three years. She currently manages a multi-phase project regarding Michigan's statewide water well database, involving automation of data analysis and mapping processes using ArcPython, hydrogeologic mapping, and creation of educational/training content. Additionally, she is developing MGS's online education presence. Evangelia holds a Master of Science in Earth Science from Western Michigan University, where she researched contaminant transport in fractured bedrock and early geoscience professional training methods. She also earned a Bachelor of Science in Geology from the same institution, studying the fundamental controls of dessication cracks in clay-rich sediments. Her research interests include PFAs investigation, mycoremediation methods, and improving geoscience accessibility and diversity.

Outside of her work with MGS, she teaches earth and environmental science courses at Kalamazoo Valley Community College, volunteers as a geological consultant for the Michigan Potter's Guild and K-12 environmental science instructor for the Izaak Walton League, and participates in outreach activities to raise public awareness of geoscience issues. She is committed to sharing her passion for science with others and inspiring the next generation of scientists.
