Lee Honors College Alumnus Wins National Alpha Lambda Delta Fellowship

Sadie Martin, a spring 2021 graduate of Western Michigan University and Lee Honors College, was recently awarded the Dr. Helen Clarke Graduate Fellowship in the amount of $2,000 by Alpha Lambda Delta, a national honor society that recognizes students’ academic success during their first year at a college or university.
Twenty-six Alpha Lambda Delta graduate fellowships are given to members each year selected from a pool of competitive applicants across the U.S. Awards are used to offset the expense of pursuing graduate or professional studies and amounts range from $2,000 to $7,000. The graduate fellowship is for the 2021-22 academic year and each fellowship is named for a person of significance to Alpha Lambda Delta. Dr. Helen Clarke was the 10th National President of Alpha Lambda Delta.
During her time at WMU, Sadie majored in Psychology: Behavioral Science, and Spanish. She was also recognized as the 2021 WMU Presidential Scholar in the Department of Psychology and Sadie served as the Senior Advisor for the WMU chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta. This fall, Sadie will begin work on a graduate degree in Industrial/Organizational Behavior Management at WMU.
Upon learning she’d received the award, Sadie “was so excited and grateful. ALD has made such a significant impact on my undergraduate career, and I am so thankful that it is also aiding me in my graduate career as well. Thanks to this award, I will be more financially secure as I start my journey into graduate school. This award will benefit me and my future endeavors, and I could not be more grateful.”
Of her undergraduate experience with Alpha Lambda Delta, Sadie says, “Being a member of ALD has helped me grow into the person I am today. The ALD community is filled with driven and encouraging members who push you to be your best self. I've made long-lasting friendships, volunteered with many local organizations, and attended events that brought me closer to not only our campus, but community as well. ALD has helped set me up for success in my future through academic and financial resources, networking opportunities, and their welcoming environment dedicated to academic excellence and growth. I am so thankful for all the opportunities that ALD has given me.”
