This year’s 9/11 Silent Climb took place on a sunny Saturday at Western Michigan University’s Waldo Stadium. In remembrance of those who sacrificed all on September 11, 2001, participants opt to take a mini climb (1,113 up and down steps), a medium climb (2,226 up and down steps) or a full climb (2,226 up steps only). Proceeds from the event are split equally between the Cuff & Ladder Fund to raise money and resources for local police, fire and EMS responders in need of support and the WMU Veterans and Dependents Scholarship for military members currently serving or those who have served previously, as well as dependents.

Two Lee Honors College staff members participated in this second annual event - Anthony Helms, interim assistant dean and director of academic advising, and Jennifer Townsend, executive assistant, The two also took part in the first 9/11 Silent Climb at Waldo Stadium in 2019. Anthony was joined by his wife, Sara Helms, for the memorial climb. When the September 11 attacks took place in 2001, Anthony was serving as a firefighter while Sara was on active duty in the Army.

Thank you to Anthony, Jennifer and Sara for taking time to honor the victims of 9/11 and for supporting local agencies serving first responders and the military.
