Hello from our new Provost, Dr. Julian Vasquez Heilig

Hello there, fellow Broncos,
I hope this note finds you basking in the beauty of summer and anticipating the start of a new semester. I'm Dr. Julian Vasquez Heilig, your Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. But hey, you can simply call me Julian.
In my role here at Western Michigan University (WMU), I wear many hats - one of which involves sparking new ideas and initiatives across all areas of academic life. I'm lucky enough to work hand-in-hand with our fantastic faculty and administrators to carve out our academic path and drive WMU toward its future.
Although I've only been part of the WMU family since January, I feel like I've been here for many years. The wonderful people, the rich and diverse culture, and the genuine sense of camaraderie make walking across campus feel like a stroll through my old neighborhood in Lansing. Like me, I have no doubt that you'll quickly feel at home in Western's inviting atmosphere, and you'll find your own groove in no time.
We are eagerly waiting to welcome you on campus this fall! As you join our lively and passionate learning community, remember this: college is more than a series of lectures and exams. It's a transformative journey, a thrilling quest to discover your passion, make unforgettable friends, and gather wisdom that will influence your life beyond graduation.
So, gear up for the adventure that lies ahead, and savor every single moment of your time on campus this fall. And hey, let's kick things off together at the first Bronco football game on August 31. Look for me in the crowd, and don't forget to stop by for a selfie. After all, we're on this journey together!
See you soon, Broncos!
Best, Julian
