Originally from Cuba, Jade Cervantes is a junior here at WMU. Jade’s major is biomedical sciences and she is minoring in chemistry. When she’s not in class or working at her part-time job in healthcare, Jade serves as a Lee Honors College Peer Student Success Team mentor, and she recently joined the Latino Student Alliance.

One of Jade’s favorite things about the Lee Honors College is our study spaces—especially the lounge, which is a “Good place to relax and spend time with other students.” Jade also loves Lee Honors College events and has hosted a Cuban cooking workshop and will lead an upcoming introductory Spanish language and culture event with two of her fellow LHC mentors.

As for advice she’s shared with new honors students, Jade suggests that you “Pick your major based on where you want to end up. Find out what you want to do and don’t let others influence you.” She also recommends volunteering as a great way to get involved in local activities that can help meet your career goals.

Another favorite campus spot of Jade’s is the College of Health and Human Services Atrium. She likes it because it’s a calming environment with a fountain, plants and coffee, too. As for Jade’s go-to place to pick up takeout near campus: she does not have one. She would much prefer to engage in her favorite hobby and cook. Her favorite dish to make is Cuban frijoles with bistec.

Congratulations to Jade on being nominated for a Lee Honors College Student Profile!
