Xuefei Jin (Ha Jin 哈金) is professor of English at Boston University. He is the most celebrated American writer of Chinese descent and a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Among the numerous awards he has won, the most prestigious is the National Book Award, which compares favorably with the Man Booker Prize of England and the Concourt Prize of France. The novel for which the NBA was awarded, Waiting, was also a Pulitzer Prize for Fiction Finalist. In this lecture, Professor Jin plans to give a short talk in combination with some poetry reading, in both English and Chinese. The poems will be related to the talk.
