The School of Music Jazz Area welcomes Carlo Torres DeRosa, a long-time veteran of the New York City music scene, to the faculty. DeRosa has worked with numerous and musically diverse artists including Ray Barretto, Jamie Baum, Ravi Coltrane, Amir ElSaffar, David Gilmore, Ingrid Jensen, Rudresh Mahanthappa, Allison Miller, Arturo O’Farrill, Tyshawn Sorey, and Ed Thigpen. He has played on over 50 albums including the 2008 Grammy award-winning album by Yo-Yo Ma, Songs of Joy & Peace along with other Grammy and Latin Grammy nominated albums. DeRosa’s own 2011 album Brain Dance featuring Mark Shim, Vijay Iyer, and Justin Brown was highly acclaimed by critics. DeRosa attended the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami for his DMA in 2018 where he was a Graduate Teaching Assistant and Henry Mancini Institute Fellow.
