KALAMAZOO, Mich.—The Western Michigan University Board of Trustees approved rate increases Dec. 13 for on-campus apartments and apartment-style residential units, keeping WMU rates aligned with those in the community and leading to monthly apartment rate increases of $7 and $19, effective for fall 2017.

Goldsworth Valley, Elmwood and Stadium Drive apartment rates will increase 1 percent for a one- or two-bedroom unfurnished unit. Beginning next fall, monthly rates will range from $670 to $888, depending on the complex, room style and unit chosen. Stadium Drive re-opened last fall after going through a yearlong renewal process, with one building serving as graduate student housing.

Western View continues to be in high demand, operating at full capacity since it first opened in fall 2011. Starting with fall semester 2017, monthly charges will range from $469 to $745 per person. Monthly rates for a two-bedroom apartment will increase $19 per person, and a four-bedroom unit will increase $16 per person. One- and three-bedroom rates at Western View will not change from last year.

Extra amenities at Western View, such as furnished units or expanded floor plans, are available for an additional charge. Students can find out more about the options at wmich.edu/housing/westernview.

The recommended rates for all campus apartments include parking, water and sewer service, cable, trash removal, recycling services and security features. Goldsworth Valley, Elmwood and Stadium Drive rates also include all utilities. Students living in WMU’s residential neighborhoods enjoy the added safety of campus living with convenient access to classes, special events and academic services.

Students interested in living in WMU apartments are encouraged to sign up early for the best selection.
