Senior Vice President for Budget and Finance Search

Western Michigan University is conducting a national search for a senior vice president for budget and finance and chief financial officer. Reporting directly to the president, this executive leader will serve as a key member of the University’s leadership team and will play a central role in advancing financial sustainability, operational excellence and long-term institutional success.

Message from the president

Welcome, and thank you for your interest in Western Michigan University.

We have begun the process to identify a senior vice president for budget and finance and chief financial officer. This leader will serve as a key member of the executive leadership team and will play a vital role in helping Western build on its momentum while advancing our mission of student success.

To assist with this important search, I have appointed a CFO Search Advisory Committee co-chaired by Dan Bartholomae, vice president and director of athletics, and Dr. Chris Cheatham, interim provost and vice president for academic affairs. The committee is made up of University stakeholders who will help identify and evaluate candidates for this critical leadership position. Our goal is to appoint the next senior vice president and chief financial officer on or after Oct. 1, 2026, allowing for a thoughtful leadership transition and continuity in the University's financial and administrative operations.

The senior vice president and chief financial officer will be a strategic partner in shaping Western’s future. Beyond financial stewardship, this individual will help guide institutional strategy, strengthen long-term financial resilience, align resources with our highest priorities, and support continued investment in the people and programs that define the Bronco experience.

This search comes at an exciting time for Western Michigan University. We are advancing a bold vision centered on student success, Experience-Driven Learning, research growth and community impact. Western is well positioned for continued progress and transformation.
