Appointments of Emeriti
Emeriti status may be recommended for faculty members who are retiring provided that they have a minimum of 10 years or the equivalent of full-time service in a board- appointed, ranked faculty position.
- The chair writes to the dean recommending emeriti status and attaches a copy of the faculty member’s notice of retirement.
- The dean reviews the recommendation and, if in support, writes to the provost recommending emeriti status and attaches a copy of both the chair and faculty member’s letters. A brief biographical sketch indicating degrees received and some contributions to Western Michigan University should also be submitted to the Provost.
- The provost reviews the submitted documents and sends written communication documenting his decision to the faculty member, dean, and chair or director. The provost then submits the request and recommendation for final approval by Western Michigan University Board of Trustees.
- The provost communicates the decision of the Western Michigan University Board of Trustees.
The recommendation of emeriti status is to be included in the documents of retirement.
