Faculty: Part-Time

This page provides guidance for the hiring and appointment of part-time faculty within Academic Affairs. It includes required procedures, templates, and supporting documents to assist departments and business managers throughout the appointment process.

  1. Candidate Selection: The department/school selects candidates in accordance with department/school and college procedures for hiring part-time faculty.
  2. Letter of Offer: The department/school prepares the letter of offer (see below templates)
  3. Background Check Requirements: Departments must follow the established Process for Part-time and Graduate Assistant Background Checks for part-time faculty and graduate assistants.
  4. Credential Verification (P-008): The department/school completes the Verification of faculty credentials for all new part-time faculty and maintain ongoing compliance to the policy.
  5. PeopleSoft Appointment: The department/school initiates the part-time faculty appointment form in PeopleSoft.
  6. Final Approvals: The chair/director and dean approve the appointment form. Provost approval is not required.
  7. Provost Budget & Personnel Review: The hiring unit forwards the signed letter of offer and signed P-008 to the Provost Office.
