My name is McKenzie Vliek, I am working on a project with College of Arts and Sciences and Student Success Services.  We are reaching out to students to check in and see how they are adjusting to distance learning, offering assistance where it is needed and providing students resources that they may need at this time.  During this project I have had positive student responses and I would like to share one with you.

I recently reached out to a sophomore student a couple of days ago through phone and e-mail. The student was so was so happy to hear that someone was reaching out to them directly.  The direct quote was, “Hello! You don’t even know how nice it is to hear this.” Since their e-mail, I have been able to provide specific resources to the student that could assist them in making progress to finish their semester successfully. In addition, I am now sending a daily email to check in with them to see how their day is going.

Overall, the student responses to my phone calls and e-mails gives me great pride in knowing that this project is helping us connect with students in a personal way and letting them know we are there for them and their academic success is important to us.
