She was feeling the negative effects of work-related stress and decided to address it. I think we can all agree that serving as the department chair is one of the most underappreciated, high stress jobs in all of academia (my words, not hers). She had read somewhere that exercise was helpful in regard to stress management, as well as the prevention of dementia and other chronic diseases, so she started weightlifting and “slogging,” which is her trademarked term for slow jogging.

Edward Lewis , of Dexter, Michigan, a junior studying supply chain management at WMU Haworth, completed the March workshop and obtained his Yellow Belt certificate. “The workshop gave me an opportunity to differentiate myself from my peers and stand out in a competitive job market. The training provided me with a deeper understanding of process improvement methodologies, which are applicable to many areas. Having this certification before graduating will allow for increased credibility, marketability and compensation as I connect with potential employers.”

KALAMAZOO—More than 30 off-campus organizations have already registered to participate in Western Michigan University's Part-Time Job Fair from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27 , in the Student Recreation Center's indoor tennis courts area. The job fair is for WMU students seeking part-time employment off campus for the upcoming fall semester.

Special Education Learning Disabilities K-12 and Elementary Education PK-3

Department of Special Education and Literacy Studies Western Michigan University's special education learning disabilities K-12 and elementary education PK-3 program, is a five-year program that addresses a critical ongoing shortage of special education teachers nationally as well as locally. The department has the highest job placement rate in teacher education at WMU. Students will have the option to earn a minor in the core content areas. Upon completion, graduates will be eligible for: Michigan teacher certification in Elementary Education K-5.
