General summary

Provides interior design services to the campus community for all campus projects. Prepares interior construction documents, drawings, and specifications for varying project types ranging from large complex to small multi-faceted projects complying with state codes and University guidelines.

Major duties

  • Analyzes, develops and plans detailed design solutions. Organizes and leads projects to full completion while maintaining attention to needs and resources. Follows the University’s vision and strategies for each project. Promotes the University brand and articulates complex concepts and designs to clients. Maintains projects budgets and schedules.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with architects, contractors, and other specialty service providers. Negotiates and mediates challenges.
  • Prepares construction documents consisting of plans, elevations, details, and specifications. Obtains quotes and pricing fir furniture, fixtures, equipment and materials. All developed and reviewed plans must comply with all state codes and University guidelines. Acts as the University’s agent and creates project related contract bidding documents.
  • Researches and analyzes client’s goals and requirements, develops documents, drawings and diagrams to outline the needs and relation to project goals and the University’s vision. Evaluates selection colors, materials and finishes to connect the design concept to meet functional, maintenance, life-cycle performance, environmental and safety requirements.
  • Maintains and researches paperwork from historic project files, and assists with resolution of warranty issues. Coordinates sampling of desk chairs for University clients to test.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field from an accredited institution

Required experience

  • One year’s relevant experience
  • Experience with project and budget management.
  • Experience managing contractors or vendors.
  • Experience with commercial design, and auto computer-aided design/office software.
  • Knowledge of furniture sourcing and vendor resources.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, organizational and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high level of customer service.
  • Basic knowledge of Americans with Disability Act.

Required other

  • Ability to travel across campus and navigate construction sites with or without accommodations.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is performed with exposure to any number of elements which may occasionally require some precautions such as safety glasses, protective clothing, ear protection, etc.
