General summary
Ensures the University’s compliance with Michigan credentialing laws for education and select College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) graduates. Serves as the University’s Certification Officer recognized by the Michigan Department of Education. Oversees completion of critical state, federal, and accreditation reports.
Major duties
- Ensures the University’s compliance with Michigan and national credentialing regulations for education and select human development programs. Provides expert interpretation, guidance, and training on policies and procedures.
- Collaborates with faculty, staff, and state agencies to maintain credentialing standards across multiple programs. Develops policies, procedures, and technological solutions to improve compliance, consistency, and efficiency.
- Manages the University’s processes for teacher, administrator, counselor, and Career and Technical Education (CTE) teacher certification and licensure, including program evaluation, admission, and credential issuance.
- Serves as subject matter expert reviewing eligibility for multiple education programs and endorsements.
- Oversees licensing documentation for Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology students (CECP), handles out-of-state evaluations, and liaises with Michigan Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) and other boards.
- Designs and delivers training on certification laws and policies. Ensures secure handling of criminal conviction documents by credentialing requirements.
- Leads Certification Office involvement in the University’s accreditation and state program reviews. Serves as the University’s Michigan Department of Education recognized Certification Officer and core member of Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) accreditation and CEHD assessment teams.
- Partners with faculty on assessment and reporting for CAEP, state, and federal requirements. Represents The University at state and national meetings.
- Independently researches, develops, and coordinates projects to enhance assessment, accreditation, and credentialing processes, improving efficiency and stakeholder experience.
- Hires, trains, and evaluates staff and student employees.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution
Required experience
- Five years' relevant experience.
- Strong knowledge of Michigan teacher, administrator, school counselor, psychologist, professional counselors, marriage and family therapy certification and licensure laws, rules, and regulations.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple complex tasks with accuracy and professionalism. Effective collaboration and teamwork skills.
- Effective listening, verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Experience with office software, including word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software.
- Familiarity with databases.
- Experience with surveys and virtual teaching programs.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of constituents.
Required other
- Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours, including weekends and holidays.
- Ability to travel in-state.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
