Featuring Keynote Speaker: Dr. Fredericka Stoller

Dr. Stoller’s keynote will address (a) global reading strategies, (b) monitoring reading strategies and (c) supporting reading strategies. Participants will consider ways to make strategic-reader training an integral part of their instructional routines, across the curriculum.

Breakout sessions will be presented by experts from around the state of Michigan on topics including, but not limited to:

  • Adapting instruction for English Learners
  • Assessing ELs with WIDA
  • Fostering academic conversations with ELs
  • Graphic organizers to promote reading comprehension
  • Context-based vocabulary instruction
  • ‘Four rounds’ academic language strategy
  • Grammar activities for multilingual writers

State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs)

Participants are eligible to receive State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs) for attending this full day conference for an additional charge. SCECHs are Michigan Department of Education (MDE) approved professional development activities used for renewal of certificates/licenses issued by the MDE.
