Competitive Admission Programs
A competitive admission program at Western Michigan University is one that is in high demand (there are more qualified applicants than openings) and has a capacity limit on the number of students who can enroll in the program. There are currently two competitive admission undergraduate majors at Western:
- Aviation Flight Science (first-year and transfer students)
- Direct admission to the Bronson School of Nursing (first-year students only)
To apply to these programs, you will complete the WMU admission application for your student type (Common App for first-year students; WMU Gold Gateway application for transfer students).
Students interested in the above programs will need to apply for fall entry. While recommendation letters, essays and other supplemental materials are optional, students who wish to be considered for these programs should submit them. A completed application, fee or waiver, and all required transcript(s) must be received by the following dates:
- First-year application deadline: Early Action, December 15.
Admission decisions will be released in mid-February. - Transfer application deadline: February 15. (Aviation Flight Science only)
Admission decisions will be released in mid-April.
