Tim Liang
As a Managing Director for AlphaMax Advisors LLC, Tim helps Western companies to do business successfully with China. Tim helps clients to develop and execute China entry strategies, including export sales, distribution, joint ventures, and wholly owned operations. AlphaMax is frequently engaged to improve the operations, management, and organizations of foreign invested companies in China and to conduct due diligence on Chinese competitor, partners, and suppliers.
Before joining AlphaMax Tim was senior vice president at JSJ Corporation, a privately held corporation of diversified manufacturing companies with global operations based in Grand Haven, MI. Tim previously spent eight years in Greater China as a management consultant for McKinsey & Company and Arthur D. Little. Earlier, at Cummins Corporation, Tim held management positions in international strategic planning, defense products sales, international distributor management, and China business development. He was a member of the Cummins China team that negotiated and executed the first foreign technology license in China’s automotive sector.
Tim serves on the boards of four companies and two community boards (Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park and the Grand Rapids Symphony). He is a member of the investment committee for the newly established New Community Transformation Fund, and he serves as the President of the Yale Club of Western Michigan. Tim and his wife, Ping, reside in Ada, MI.
Tim has a B.A. from Oberlin College and graduate degrees in East Asian studies, Chinese archaeology, and public and private management from Yale University.
