Model Guidelines

At Western, we value capturing real students living their best lives. It's the best way to show future Broncos what life can be like when they attend Western Michigan University. To reach these prospective students, we'll use these photos in print, online and social media platforms.

Guidelines for student models

Once you're selected for a scheduled photoshoot, an Office of Marketing and Strategic Communications representative will contact you a few days before the shoot with instructions about the location, clothing needs and any necessary props like a backpack, laptop, books or mobile phone.

Please plan to arrive a few minutes early. The photographer will get you in and out as efficiently as possible. Keep in mind, there could be some down time. So you may want to bring a drink, snacks and something to do.

Please dress appropriately. Remember you are representing Western Michigan University.

  • Dress as if you were going on a “first date” at lunchtime.
Dress nicely but not too dressy.
  • Simple solid colors work best for your shirt. Light color shades are great, but please avoid the plain white shirt if you can. Please don’t wear anything with a busy pattern on it.
  • Crop tops or torn jeans are not recommended.
  • Please don’t wear clothing with large logos or graphics—Western gear is okay. Small chest logos are fine, but try to avoid it if possible. We will also have Western-branded clothing available if needed.
  • Feel free to bring clothing options (additional shirts) with you to the photoshoot.
  • Please shave unless you are intentionally going for a stubble effect. Please communicate this desire in advance.
  • Makeup is personal and should reflect what you would do in the “first date” scenario described above.
