International Graduate Assistant Training

Training Dates: August 19, 20, and 22, 2019


The Diether H. Haenicke Institute for Global Education's (HIGE) Center for English Language and Culture for International Students (CELCIS) will offer an International Teaching Assistant Program. This program aims to provide in depth training about U.S. academia, culture, classroom environment and practices, and specific English language training. The ITAP will be held from August 19, 20, and 22, 2019. 

Eligibility

  • Any international teaching assistant who will be new to WMU in Fall 2019.
  • Any international teaching assistant  who will be teaching in WMU for the first time in Fall 2019 or Spring 2020.
  • Any international teaching assistant who has taught at WMU in the past, but who would like additional training to improve classroom communication may participate by choice or may be required to participate by their department supervisor.

Program Fee

  • $350 per participant to be paid by the department.

LEarning Outcomes

  • Classroom communication dynamics for teaching North American undergraduate students.
  • Training in compensating for non-native American English pronunciation.
  • Six separate opportunities to practice effective classroom presentations.
  • Feedback from both peers and experienced University instructors.
