Since the Spring of 2020, the WMU Cold Case Program has worked with the Michigan State Police (MSP) to investigate cold homicide and missing person cases.  This unique partnership allows Broncos to work directly with MSP investigation teams on unsolved crimes. This program qualifies for work study eligible students and students can receive three credits either as an internship or as an independent study.

The Program accepts students by application only and student acceptance into the Program is not guaranteed. The Program accepts applications from students of any major or minor at WMU.  To be considered for the Program students must meet the following criteria:

  • Be an enrolled WMU student for the semester in which you are applying
  • Hold a GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Hold at least sophomore standing by the semester in which you are applying (earned at least 26 credit hours)
  • Have no other classes or work scheduled for Mondays and Wednesdays for the semester in which you are applying
  • Write an essay detailing the contributions the student could make to the Program

To apply for Summer or Fall semesters the program releases applications in late February of each year. To apply for Spring semesters, the program releases applications in late September.
