The WMU Cold Case Program with Michigan State Police offers several different experience-driven learning opportunities for students involved in the program to help students gain hands-on experience and prepare them for future careers in law enforcement. In the past, our students have been able to:
Attend WMU at the Capital to speak to our legislators
Visit important locations associated with individual cases, such as the original crime scene or where important evidence was found
Tour Michigan State Police headquarters, including the recruitment school facilities
Tour Michigan State Police crime labs
Receive hands on learning from professionals in various fields
Attend Michigan Detective Homicide School in Lansing
Gain experience in media
Attend guest lectures by law enforcement professionals, including a Michigan State Police recruiter, a polygraph expert, a narcotics analyst, a DNA expert, and a retired FBI profiler turned professor
