Bio:

Dr. Julio holds a PhD in Geography from the University of São Paulo (USP) and a Bachelor's Degree in Geography from São Paulo State University (UNESP). He has served as a Research Scholar at Columbia University and is currently an Assistant Professor at Western Michigan University. Prior to this, he was an Assistant Professor at the Federal University of Bahia in Brazil and worked as a consultant in Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing for the Pólis Institute. In this role, he contributed to projects focused on monitoring, analysis, and evaluation in both urban and natural environments. Dr. Julio's current research centers on assessing changes in Earth's surface using satellite imagery, spatial analysis, and spectral mixture models. He is a member of the International Geographical Union (IGU) Urban Commission for the 2021-2024 term, also a member of the Steering Committee of the Network Association of European Researchers in South and coordinates the urban area mapping team at the MapBiomas Initiative.
