Grand Rapids Student Information

  1. Weather days (and unexpected closures) at WMU-Grand Rapids
    • All closure communication will come from the WMU RAVE Alerts
      • Follow the instructions to register to receive the WMU Alerts.   
    • WMU-GR does not always follow the same weather closures as the main campus, unless the main campus explicitly indicates "all WMU campuses".
  2. WMU-Grand Rapids Building Hours
    • Doors lock prior to the posted closing time.  Security personnel will remain on-site until the building is cleared.
  3. Disability Services
    • For questions about disability resources available through WMU,  call 269-387-2116 or visit the website.
  4. Bronco ID Cards
    • Bronco ID Cards are not required at the Grand Rapids location, but they will make it easier for you to release your print jobs.  Print jobs can also be released manually.
    • Reach out to the WMU Grand Rapids building staff if you need help picking up your card from the Kalamazoo main campus.
  5. Parking in Grand Rapids
    • The Cherry/Commerce parking ramp is across the street from our building.  Access from the Cherry Street side.
    • The DASH is free to use and has a stop next to our building on the Cherry Street side.  Find Arena South on the map.  This line also connects with some parking lots in town that offer lower rates for day parking.
    • The RAPID is a paid bus system in Grand Rapids. The silver line runs from the city outskirts (where there are free or reduced parking lots).
    • The RAPID schedule and map will help you get all around the city.  The Silverline runs from the city outskirts into downtown.
  6. Downtown Ambassadors
    1. The Downtown Ambassadors are a team of responsive professionals who are available 24/7 to help you find your way around the city and to feel safe.
  7. Finding your classes in the building
    • To find your assigned classroom, reference your schedule in GoWMU.
    • Refer to the digital signage in the lobby and on each floor to see the day's schedule and room location.
    • Ask Security at the front desk in the main lobby.
  8. Building Security Sign In
    • Please put a check mark next to your name on the class list as you enter and exit the building.   This is located on the WMU table by the front door.
    • This is for safety purposes so that we know who is on-site in case of an emergency in the building.
  9. Important Dates
    • You can find class scheduled start/end dates, last day to drop/add, scheduled closure dates, semester end dates, final exam calendar, and the university calendar.
