General summary

Maintains the plant conservatory and research greenhouse.

Major duties

  • Manages the daily operations of the greenhouse. Ensures material and supplies are available for researchers. Develops greenhouse procedures and supervises students who assist with daily operations.
  • Cares for and maintains the conservatory collection of over 2000 plants.
  • Provides technical and research support to faculty and students. Cares for research plant materials, assigns research space and coordinates research activities within the greenhouse.
  • Generates revenue to support the greenhouse by conducting fall, winter and spring plant sales.
  • Ensures plant materials are available for classes and labs as required.
  • Gives tours of the greenhouse for University visitors.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • One year’s relevant experience.

Physical requirements

Moderate work occasionally working in difficult position or with physical demands such as continuously lifting or moving materials from 25 to 50 pounds and occasionally lifting or moving materials greater than 50 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is performed in an environment with exposure to somewhat disagreeable or hazardous conditions.
