General summary

Plans, allocates and controls budgets for assigned executive officer areas, colleges, and/or operating units within the University.

Major duties

  • Responsible for the allocation of budget funding within assigned executive officer area, college and/or operating unit. Collaborates with the area contact person to build proposed revenue and expense budgets.
  • Maintains fiscal control of budget and actual transactions for designated area. Works with the contact person to resolve budgetary problems and propose corrective actions or decisions.
  • Performs special projects such as analyses for the President or other executive officers. Plan and implement activities for collective bargaining and other negotiations.
  • Creates the University Budget Request for submission to the State of Michigan. Develops, gathers and maintains the integrity of data and the final structure of the document.
  • Ensures consistent application of budgetary policies and procedures. Applies a set of overall rules and controls to ensure compliance with state guidelines.
  • Creates and maintains university financial and budgetary reporting and analyses such as General Fund Financial Report, Presidential and other reserves, revenue and expense and monthly/quarterly financial statements.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from and accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Three years' relevant experience.
  • Budget, institutional and fund management experience.
  • Spreadsheet and office software proficiency.
  • Accounting systems experience.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting/moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors and/or any number of elements.
