General summary

Directs the daily operations of the student center, including facilities management, event planning, income generation, fiscal oversight and student center policies and procedures. Ensures the student center is a welcoming, inclusive, student-focused facility while maintaining exceptional customer service and program delivery.

Major duties

  • Directs the strategic and organizational planning activities to integrate all functions and services within the student center. Provides leadership and management to staff for the overall planning and administration of the student center operations. Establishes and maintains the highest quality customer service, facilities management and improvement and program delivery.
  • Develops and implements an on-going facility and program assessment plan that includes the assessment of service and program delivery and student learning. Utilizes the assessment data to improve the effectiveness of daily operations, communication processes, building policies and procedures.
  • Manages the fiscal integrity of the student center and the University catering operation. Generates internal and external financial resources for the programs and the facility. Provides leadership in balancing the budgets. Establishes and monitors financial policies and procedures and negotiates contracts. Ensures compliance with University, state and federal requirements.
  • Collaborates with the Office of Student Engagement to create an inclusive and welcoming environment. Provides opportunities for student leadership experiences throughout all building operations.
  • Ensures the student center provides convenient and effective services for the campus community, including retail, bookstore and student support services. Oversees the University's catering operation to ensure it provides high quality service and products for the University community.
  • Provides leadership in the development of policies and procedures that best meet the needs of the constituents and minimizes obstacles. Creates an environment of collaborative working relationships with vendor colleagues and other departmental colleagues in the building as well as departments and programs across the campus.
  • Establishes policies and procedures and the direction of daily operations. Ensures compliance with policies, laws, rules and regulations.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Five years' relevant experience.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Experience working in a college student center or student union related facility.
  • Student Affairs experience.
  • Experience with business management.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of intercultural competencies.

Required other

  • Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours, including weekends and holidays.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
