General summary

Directs the Engineering division for Facilities Management.

Major duties

  • Directs engineering staff, including engineers collaborating with architecture and construction professionals and the design and construction of capital projects. Ensures that professional engineering standards are maintained.
  • Monitors engineering-related issues in campus operations and construction projects, identifies trends or issues and develops and implements improvements.
  • Directs the development and implementation of sustainability and energy conservation standards and projects.
  • Develops and manages budgets.
  • Manages contractors and vendors.
  • Hires, trains and evaluates and supervises staff and student employees.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Five years' relevant experience.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Project management experience.
  • Budget management experience.
  • Experience managing contractors or vendors.

Required other

  • Professional Engineers license

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
