General summary

Directs the University’s internal and external communications to all audiences through electronic media and establishes policies, standards and technical solutions for mission-critical communications and initiatives.

Major duties

  • Directs the design and development of the University’s web presence and social media channels through strategic planning, competitive analysis, industry research, functional requirements and workflow analysis, and internal training.
  • Designs and develops the University-wide Web content management system using the University’s approved software. Serves as the software architect and project manager, designing algorithms, writing code and reviewing code developed by others.
  • Ensures compliance with University policies and industry best practices by reviewing, approving, consulting on and auditing electronic communications produced by all University departments.
  • Collaborates with University departments, marketing managers, and webmasters from all colleges and offices as well as with external vendors to establish infrastructure requirements, design and writing standards, policies, procedures, and technology deployment plans for all electronic communication channels.
  • Participates in and provides expertise to campus-wide councils, committees and user groups that oversee the University’s Web presence. May serve as chair of assigned groups.

Required education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution, or Bachelor’s degree in a non-related field from a accredited institution combined with relevant experience.

Required experience

  • Five years’ relevant experience.
  • Experience with mass email and text messaging technology, content management systems and relevant Web programming languages.
  • Project management experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

Desired qualifications

Desired experience

  • Three years’ experience using the University’s publisher platform software.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well lit temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
